Alpha — The fields
Four fields, four professional languages
Each field corresponds to a dedicated training pathway. The vocabulary, working documents and role-play scenarios are those of your profession — not those of a general textbook.
I.
Defence & NATO
Operational and staff English: briefs, orders, allied procedures, communication in multinational environments. Full preparation for the STANAG 6001 test — the standardised language profile (SLP) required for postings in a NATO environment — and language support before deployments, multinational exercises or assignments abroad — NATO staffs, liaison posts, embassies. A particular grounding in aviation: allied coordination, phraseology and the English of air operations.
ForServing and reserve military personnel, civilian defence staff, candidates for officer selection exams
II.
Security & emergency services
English for homeland security and civil protection: response, crisis management, cross-border cooperation, assisting foreign victims. English for immigration, customs and border control: interviewing, checks on travellers and goods, dealing with foreign nationals, and the terminology of residence law, asylum and anti-trafficking. Preparation for the oral English tests of competitive exams — police, gendarmerie, fire services.
ForPolice officers, gendarmes, firefighters, security officers, prefecture and immigration staff, customs officers, candidates for security-sector exams
III.
Investigation
English for investigation and compliance: interviewing and questioning, fraud examination, investigation report writing, and the legal and financial terminology of international cases. The vocabulary of internal investigations, due diligence and anti-money laundering (AML/KYC), and exchanges with foreign counterparts — witnesses, peers, authorities.
ForPrivate investigators, auditors, compliance and anti-fraud professionals, legal practitioners
IV.
Intelligence, OSINT & competitive intelligence
English for analysis and monitoring: open-source intelligence (OSINT), analytical notes and briefings, the terminology of economic intelligence, and oral debriefs to decision-makers. Critical reading of English-language sources — press, reports, social media, databases — cybersecurity and threat vocabulary, competitive and geopolitical monitoring, and analytical writing to international standards: summarising, confidence levels, the language of estimation.
ForOSINT analysts, competitive intelligence consultants, monitoring specialists, due diligence professionals
Bravo — The training
Three formats, adapted to every field
The principle is simple: your field provides the content, the format provides the framework. Whether you come from defence, security, investigation or intelligence, every course exists in the three formats below — always built on the vocabulary, documents and situations of your profession.
Certification Pack
10 hours · one-to-one · online or in person
Full preparation for a certification deadline — starting with STANAG 6001 (the NATO language profile): level assessment, targeted training across the four skills, marked mock tests and exam strategy.
For exampleAn officer preparing the STANAG 6001 test before a NATO staff posting · an analyst whose upcoming certification is held in English
Preparation for the oral English tests of defence and security competitive exams: training under real conditions, jury marking grids and timed simulations.
For exampleThe oral English test of an officer, gendarmerie, police or fire service competitive exam
Tailor-made training for your teams, in the field of your choice: technical and contractual English, allied communication, interviewing or analysis — built on your documents and your situations.
For exampleA compliance team conducting interviews in English · a customs unit in a border area · a defence manufacturer's engineers before an international trade show
The Briefing is Lumena Formations' weekly watch: the essentials of the week's defence, security, investigation and intelligence news, written in professional English — the exact register of the sector's publications. Each article comes with a Key terms box giving the French equivalent of the words that matter.
Five minutes' reading. Because reading authentic English every week is already training.

I am Marie Mosen, a bilingual professional English trainer and a French and New Zealand national. Over more than thirty years I have built an international career across aviation, establishment management, international relations in higher education, and specialist language training.
A Reserve Lieutenant in the French Air and Space Force, I also completed university training in homeland security at the Université de Lorraine. It gave me a deeper understanding of intelligence, public order, crisis management and international security policy. The input of field practitioners and this multidisciplinary approach now enrich the programmes I design, so that they match the realities of these professions as closely as possible.
My conviction is simple: in security, defence and international relations, English is not just about speaking a language. It is about communicating with precision, understanding the issues at stake, and interacting with confidence in contexts where every word counts.
